Motor Racing Comes to SentosaCome September 25, 2008, yet another event will take place in Sentosa! The Inaugural Motor Racing Golf and Gala Dinner will be held at the Sentosa Golf Club and the Amara Sanctuary Resort Sentosa. Several activities will run during the week, including the Inaugural 2008 F1TM Singtel Singapore Grand Prix on 28th September, 2008. The race will be the first of its kind in F1 history to be held at night and is the first street car race in Asia.
1996 F1 world champion, Mr Damon Hill, an avid golfer himself, is the Goodwill Sports Ambassador and is flying in with his wife specially for the event. Mr Hill is also the Patron of the UK Down Syndrome Association. The event will officially be opened by Mr S Iswaran, Senior Minister of State for Trade and Industry and Chairmanof the F1 Steering Committee. Organized by Champions Golf Academy, with Premier Oil as the presenting sponsor, the private event, by invitation only, hopes to raise $50,000 for Down Syndrome Association Singapore, the nominated beneficiary for 2008. Some 144 players are expected to ply in the Golf Tournament at the Sentosa Golf Club, while the Gala Dinner at the Amara Sanctuary Resort will accommodate 400 guests representing a line-up of well-known sports personalities including Mr Andy Nicol, BBC Sports Correspondent from the UK and Mr Paul Masefield, ESPN Sports Commentator, as well as media celebrities, fashion icons, and representatives from the government, corporate, professional and business communities from in and around Singapore. "With the F1 Grand Prix and many sports personalities visiting Singapore in September, this is an opportune time to access people involved in the golf and international racing circuit, and to appeal to their corporate and social responsibility," said Mr Matthew Murray, Managing Director of Champion's Golf Academy (CGA). CGA is headed by former French Open Golf Champion, Alan Murray and his son, Matthew Murray. CGA has organized high profile professional, corporate and international charity golf tournaments in countries such as China, Korea, Australia, the United Arab Emirates and the Southeast Asia region, and through these events, raised private funding for charitable organizations such as World Vision, Make a Wish Foundation, Christina Noble Foundation and the Lupus Association. The Motor Racing Golf and Gala Dinner will present an award-winning menu specially created for the Gala, and entertainment by jazz personalities - Salha from Dubai, Clare Moorhouse from the UK and Singapore's very own Louis Soliano trio, as well as live and silent auctions, a fashion extravaganza, raffle draw and dancing.
